What Is a Battery

In electronics, a battery is two or more electrochemical cells wired in series which store chemical energy and make it available as electrical energy when connected in a circuit. Finished battery is commonly called as a battery pack. Batteries are divided into two basic  classes: primary batteries which are non rechargeable and secondary batteries which can be recharged. All T6 power batteries are rechargeable.

The life of a rechargeable battery operating under normal conditions is generally between 300 to 600 charge-discharge cycles. This range also depends on the type of the cell. As your rechargeable battery begins to die, you will notice a decline in the running time of the battery. When your two hour battery is only supplying you with an half-an-hour's worth of use, it's time for a new one.

T6 power Battery Comes in Three Types

  1. Nickel-Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) battery
  2. Lithium Ion (Li-ion) battery
  3. Lithium Ion Polymer (Li-Poly) battery

Each type of rechargeable battery technology has its own unique characteristic chemistry. Ni-Cd and Ni-MH batteries suffer from so called memory effect (ME). ME means the phenomenon of wilful discharging of a battery. Ni-Cd and Ni-MH batteries must be periodically discharged and charged to prevent ME. First 3-5 full charge/discharge cycles are necessary for prolonging their lifetime. Ni-Cd and Ni-MH batteries should be stored in a cool place at least at 40% state-of-charge and charged/discharged approximately every 3-4 weeks. We also recommend not to let the battery fully discharged for long time. Deep discharge make ME and the battery looses faster its life. Li-ion and Li-Poly batteries do not suffer from ME.

Difference Among the Types of Cells

The difference between Ni-Cd and Ni-MH battery lies mainly in battery lifetime. Ni-MH offers more capacity with the same weight and size than Ni-Cd. Ni-MH batteries also suffer less from ME so their battery life is longer than Ni-Cd. Ni-MH battery does not contain heavy metals and is more friendly to environment than Ni-Cd battery. We can tell that Ni-Cd is the oldest type of nowadays-selling batteries and Ni-MH battery is newer type than Ni-Cd. Both are forerunners to Li-ion and Li-Poly batteries. Li-ion and Li-Poly batteries do not suffer from ME, their battery life is about 40 % longer than battery life of Nickel based batteries. Lithium based batteries are more cheaper, smaller, lighter than Nickel based ones. The newest type is Lithium Polymer battery which is light and small but still has some limitations about conductivity and heating the cells so it is still the object of scientific research.

How Long Will Then a Battery Power the Device

Actual battery run-time depends upon the power demands made by the equipment. In the case of notebooks, the use of the monitor, the hard drive and other peripherals results in an additional drain upon the battery, effectively reducing the battery's run-time. The total run-time of the battery is also heavily dependent upon the design of the equipment. To ensure maximum performance of the battery, we recommend to optimize the notebook‘s power management features. Further instructions are usually described in the notebook‘s manual.

The battery will commonly undergo self-discharging when left unused for a long period of time. Thus, it should always be stored in a fully charged state and kept in a cool, dry and clean place away from heat and metal objects. A charged battery will eventually loose its charge if unused. It may therefore be necessary to recharge the battery after a storage period.

How to Care for a Battery

T6 power battery usually comes in a discharged condition with low capacity. It is highly recommended to fully charge new battery pack before use. A new battery pack usually needs to be circled (fully discharged and recharged) 3 to 4 times to reach its optimum performance. Specially when you charge a notebook battery for the first time your notebook may indicate that charging is complete after just 10 or 15 minutes. This is a normal phenomenon with rechargeable batteries. Simply remove the battery from the notebook and repeat the charging procedure.

It is recommended to clean battery contacts with a cotton swab and alcohol if they appear dirty. This will help to maintain a good connection between the battery and your portable device.

Be careful with charging Ni-Cd and Ni-MH batteries in your charger. Ni-Cd and Ni-MH batteries have essentially different chemistry from one another and in most cases cannot be recharged in the same battery charger. Each battery type requires a different charging pattern to be properly recharged so please follow instructions in your battery charger manual if your charger supports charging either type or just specific one.

It is normal if a new battery gets warm when being charged or used. However, close attention should be paid if the battery pack becomes excessively hot. This may indicate a problem with the charging circuit of the electronic device.

Rating of Batteries

There are two ratings on every battery determining its electric potential difference (V=volt) and electric charge or energy use (mAh or Wh). MilliAmpere hours or Watt hours measure a rate of the amount of energy that a battery can store. We can say that the higher a battery's milliAmpere-hour or Watt-hour rating is, the longer the battery's run-time will be.

If the voltage of the battery will differ in decimal position between your current battery and ours it is not detrimental to your device, e.g. li-ion battery labeled 3.6 V is the same as one labeled 3.7 V, li-ion battery labeled 7.2 V is the same as one labeled 7.4 V, li-ion battery labeled 10.8 V is the same as one labeled 11.1 V, li-ion battery labeled 14.4 V is the same as one labeled 14.8 V. The functionality and performances of either cell range are identical and cannot be differentiated by the device.

The milliAmpere-hour (mAh) rating of T6 power batteries can be higher or lower than the one on your original battery. A lower or higher mAh rating is indicative of a shorter or a longer lasting (higher capacity) battery and will not cause any incompatibilities or damages in your device.
